Palace on Wheels has graced the Rajasthan tourism and Indian railways since 26th January, 1982 when it made its inaugural operations from October 1982. It initially comprised of saloons that were used by the royalties of India. Palace On Wheels is a joint project of the Ministry of Railways. Government of India and Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation, supported by the Department of Tourism, Government of India Welcome aboard the new broad guage Palace On Wheels and get carried away into the opulent world of maharajas, magnificent palaces and imposing forts. The elegant interiors of this luxury train alongwith delectable cuisine and personalised service, all exude an exclusive charm. Every saloon has its own personal attendant or 'Khidmatgar' attired in ethnic Rajasthani costume who ensures your journey is comfortable and enjoyable. Fully air- conditioned, the 14 deluxe saloons are equipped with excellent amenities like channel music and intercom which enhance the pleasure of travelling. Each saloon is a combination of 4 twin bedded chambers with attached toilets running cold & hot water and shower facilities. Colourfully attired men and women garland the guests and accord a ceremonial welcome at the Delhi Cantonment Railway Station from where the journey starts. For the next seven days, the guests live in regal splendour as the train winds its way to the Pink City of Jaipur, magical desert cities Jaisalmer and Jodhpur, fascinating Sawai Madhopur, historical Chittaurgarh and Lake City Udaipur, Bharatpur and Agra, the charming city of the Taj Mahal. The journey of a lifetime begins as the Palace on Wheels pulls gently out of Delhi into the fascinating world of Rajasthan.
Facilities : Feel like the royalty on board the Palace on Wheels a completely self sufficient train. Fully air conditioned, the train comprises of 14 deluxe saloons equipped with class amenities to enhance the pleasure of travelling. Each saloon is a combination of 4 twin-bedded chamber with channel music, intercom, attached toilets running hot & cold water, shower and wall to wall carpet. The lounge car recapture the royal style, pomp & pageantry, the quality of the era gone by. The two dining cars- The Maharaja and the Maharani Rajasthani ambience serving Continental, Indian and Rajasthani cuisine. The coaches are named after the erstwhile princely states: Alwar, Bharatpur, Bikaner, Bundi, Dhaulpur, Dungarpur, Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jhalawar, Jodhpur, Kishangarh, Kota, etc
